Giving the Public Access to Lung Health Experts
In an effort to reach the public and continue to bridge the gap between patient and clinician, the foundation has expanded our COPD campaign to include the Lung Health Experience. Our lung health expo brings local respiratory therapists and leading lung health experts to the public in a fun and inviting, carnival-like atmosphere. This event allows members of the community to connect with their local lung health champions so that they can begin the conversation about their lung health outside of the clinical setting, get their lungs screened by a respiratory therapist or pulmonologist, learn about different disease states, and gain empathy for those ailed with conditions and diseases like asthma and COPD. In 2017, the Lung Health Experience will tour through various cities in the United States and Canada, starting with an event in Oklahoma City. For almost 20 years, the CHEST Foundation has had the privilege of giving almost $2 million in funding to community service grants that have been leading the way with innovating health-care practices throughout rural areas across our own country and many international locations. From Asthma Boot Camps in Texas, to bronchoscopy training in Ethiopia, our community service grant recipients are far reaching and making a difference in patient care and building healthier communities.
