When it comes to crushing lung disease, we all have to work together. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to become the bridge builders between patients, their caregivers, and the health care professionals who treat them. From educational resources to community support, your journey toward better lung health starts here.

Foundation addresses health disparities across US
In 2020, the CHEST Foundation embarked on a five-city Listening Tour across the US to understand the challenges that patients face in accessing health care, particularly in under-resourced communities. The message was clear: They experience a lack of access, equity, and trust. Driven to action, CHEST set out to address these barriers. Empathetic listening training emerged as the solution to build trust between patients and clinicians and improve the patient experience.
ILD resources: navigating your journey
Receiving an ILD diagnosis is life-changing. Between choosing your care team, researching your treatment options, and learning how to navigate your day-to-day activities, life can quickly seem overwhelming. That’s where we can help. Our resources and patient guide are designed to help guide you on your journey towards a longer, more fulfilling life.
Lung health in women
Lung disease can impact genders differently. The CHEST Foundation has resources to help women better understand how their symptoms and care may differ from what men experience.
Revolutionizing the future of lung health
Whether it’s your cousin, your grandma, or your friend, we bet you know somebody who has been affected by lung disease. As the third-leading cause of death in the United States, you’re unfortunately likely to know someone. Through research, education, and outreach, we’re hoping to shift that statistic.
Working with the best physicians on behalf of patients
In an ideal health-care situation, there would be a direct link between what patients are experiencing in the real world and what physicians are prescribing in their exam rooms. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. As the patient-focused philanthropic arm of the American College of Chest Physicians, we are in a unique position to change that.
The physicians who collaborate with us, the ones who are guiding and informing our work, are the same physicians who are treating patients on a daily basis. Why is this so important? We believe that the health-care professionals who regularly listen to the struggles and celebrate the triumphs of their patients are the same physicians who will best serve a wider audience—our audience.
Having a meaningful connection to these physicians enables us to create patient-education tools and toolkits that are data driven and timely. More importantly, it enables us to create user-friendly and relevant content.
As bridge builders, we see this connection as an opportunity to elevate the relationship between patients and physicians. Our goal is to ensure that anyone affected by lung disease has the tools, resources, and confidence they need to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.
Beating lung disease is our business. Helping you do it is our passion.
From Texas to Tanzania, our mission is to revolutionize lung health by awarding millions of dollars in grants for clinical research, community outreach events, and comprehensive patient-education tools.
