CHEST Foundation’s Buy-A-Mask Campaign

In the midst of this pandemic and conflicting sentiments, there is an undisputable truth. Frontline workers need to have the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) to do their jobs, and our at-risk loved ones need to feel safe and supported. Unfortunately, the people experiencing the most PPE shortages live in communities hardest hit by COVID-19.
That’s why the CHEST Foundation launched the Buy-A-Mask, Give-A-Mask campaign, which aims to help those at-risk in our most deserving, underserved communities. We’re referring to cities and areas that have experienced hot spots in demographically diverse neighborhoods, places such as New York, Chicago, Houston, Arizona, and many other locations.
The idea is simple: for every donation made to the Foundation, the American Mask Rally will provide a mask for someone living in an underserved community. This includes health-care workers, such as clinicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists; and essential frontline workers, such as delivery truck drivers, toll booth workers, and grocery store clerks. Your donation helps supply masks to the community, where supply is most needed. Most importantly, you are supporting communities, families, and the physicians who protect our members who are actively delivering the needed community outreach.
These are the heroes who put themselves at risk every day to ensure that our needs are being met — the last thing they should be concerned about is gaining access to medical-grade masks. With this campaign, the Foundation is hoping to take that burden off their shoulders.
WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER
The campaign stands for something more than free PPE, however. It represents the importance of wearing a mask. We don’t do it because we have to; we do it because we want to support our clinicians, protect our families, and stand in solidarity with our communities. We’re all in this together, and we’re all going to wear masks to prove it. That is the heart of the issue, and that’s what the Foundation will continue to promote.
